An incredibly Rare example of the Tarleton worn by Captain The Hon William Henry Gardner, 18th September 1793 Commanded M Troop1805: Formed in July; Home (OC Capt. Hon. William Henry Gardner) Brevet Major 4th June 1811; Regimental Lieutenant Colonel 30th December 1814.Stations, Combats & Troop Commanders.

 

Gardner was the son of Admiral Alan, Lord Gardner, who had been Lord Chatham’s friend and colleague on the Board of Admiralty during Chatham’s tenure as First Lord. William Henry was thus also the brother of Alan Hyde, Lord Gardner, who commanded one of the naval divisions during the expedition to Walcheren where William Henry was appointed ADC to Lord Chatham 1808, He reached the rank of General and died in 1856
