Major Cosmo Little served in the Lancashire Militia from 19 December 1874. He was appointed Second Lieutenant 5th Lancers 13 August  1877.  Lieutenant 1880. ADC to Earl Spencer when he was Lord Lieutenant of Ireland.  1882 to 1885.  Captain 7 March 1883.  Served on staff of General Ewart on the Suakin expedition 1885. Received a Brevet majority and MID.  ADC to Marquis of Londonderry when Lord Lieutenant of Ireland 1886 - 87.   Adjutant of Warwickshire Yeomanry 1888 to 1892.  Left regiment in 1892.   Became Major London Yeomanry (Rough Riders) 1901 to 1905.
Returned to 5th Lancer as Reserve Officer, served in South Africa, appointed Commandant at Volkrust and Newcastle, Natal
